Chandubi

Situated 37 km from Guwahati airport, Chandubi is the perfect destination for a slice of rural life, away from all the hustle and bustle of metro life. This Octopus-shaped lake rests silently in the foot of the Garo Hills, in Kamrup district of Assam. Chandubi Lake was formed as an aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 1897 and has over the years become a beautiful tourist destination. Its naturally evolved ecology has a thriving wildlife population and is a safe haven for exotic fauna and wetland birds. This lake attracts migratory birds during winter.

A tiny village Jaramukhuriya with just 21 houses inhibited by the Rabha tribe of Assam is located by the side of this lake. It’s an untouched area where people are self sufficient – they weave their own clothes and grow their own food.
