Flavors of Rajasthan Homestay – Bikaner

Bikaner is the fourth largest city in Rajasthan and is surrounded by the Thar Desert. The city is known for the 16th-century Junagarh Fort. Within the fort, the Prachina Museum displays traditional textiles and royal portraits. Another main attraction is  Karni Mata Temple that houses thousands of rats. There are many museums in the city to give you a glimpse of its glorious past. Do not miss visiting Bhandsar Jain Temple that is a three storied shrine that dates back to the 15th century and is the finest example of Rajputana architecture.

Other than exploring the rich history and culture of the place indulge in activities like camel safari in the Thar, shop your heart out at Kote Gate, relish the taste of the local cuisines, go out for wildlife spotting in the Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary and beat the heat at the Skybird Water Park.

It is a private independent bungalow located in a peaceful residential area of central Bikaner. All the sightseeing places are within 15 mins distance. This colony is an upscale locality of the town where there are wide roads and lots of greenery and there is a market with cafes, restaurants and shopping nearby. The main building is single floor, the two annexes are two floors. The guest rooms are in the main building that is well ventilated and airy and at the same time gives privacy from the main family areas of the house. 

There are 2 classic rooms and 2 superior rooms, all with attached washroom. The common areas include verandah, back courtyard, living room with a small library, dining area, lawn and terrace. The large front lawn is surrounded by Neem and Sirius trees and is an ideal place for your yoga session in the mornings. The bird bath here attracts lots of birds in the mornings and afternoons. There is a wide driveway to park your vehicles safely.

How To Reach

Bikaner is well connected by rail and road. The railway station is within the city. Regular buses from Delhi, Jodhpur, Agra, Ajmer, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Udaipur and Kota are available for Bikaner. The nearest is Nal Airport Bikaner (17 km) but has limited flights. Nearest major airport is in Jodhpur (240km).

Enjoy simple home cooked meals. Breakfast options include toast butter jam and eggs to order/ stuffed parathas, along with cereals/poha, seasonal fruits, Chai or coffee. Lunch/ dinner includes regular Indian meals prepared on prior request which can include besides the normal north Indian fare, some Rajasthani specialities like gatta, sangri, khaato, phophaliya, etc. and for the non vegetarians various kinds of Laal Maas cooked on a chula.

His guests are mainly American/Canadian/British and with them he traveled vastly around India and have seen a lot of beautiful boutique hotels, mainly small ones. Nature and wildlife, history, design and art interest him. The family includes his wife Anindita, two children and his father. The stay with the owner’s family will open up Bikaner for you from a local’s perspective. The owners belong to a prominent and educated Rajput family whose forefathers had been in service in the Maharaja’s government, and the later ones in the Indian government.
