Hill town of Kalimpong is perched on a ridge above Teesta River on the Himalayan foothills of West Bengal. It is known for its flower market, particularly for the wide variety of orchids. It is also home to many colonial-era buildings like MacFarlane Memorial Church, monasteries like Hilltop Durpin Monastery and Zang Dhok Palri Phodang that is famous for its rare Tibetan Buddhist scriptures. There is an excellent private library as well in Kalimpong for the study of Tibetan and Himalayan culture. Because of its relatively lower altitude as compared to Darjeeling or Gangtok, the weather remain mild and pleasant for most parts of the year.
