Mararikulam is a peaceful and romantic beach village in the district of Alleppey, practically untouched by modernity and looking exactly as it would be hundred years ago. It got its name from Lord Shiva (locally called Marari). It’s a paradise for nature lovers and a morning stroll is a fine way to introduce yourself to the Malabar Coast’s unique ecosystem and explore its myriad charms. Just to give you a taste, you can expect to find 97 species of butterflies and more than 350 species of endemic plants. Marari also is rated as one of the world’s top five hammock beach by National Geographic survey.
It’s a dream house of Shibu which he built in 2015. Located hardly 200 mtr from the beach, is a great hide out for your tranquil leisure. It’s a blissful home, having 4 well-furnished cozy guest rooms. Every room comes with AC and attached western style toilets. There is a tastefully done common sitting area where you can do reading, chat with the family or enjoy a hot coffee. There also is a garden where you can do morning exercise, meditation or yoga. O yeah, there is rain shower also in the garden.

Travelled for the first time with this concept of homestays but it was worth it. Every day waking up to beautiful places, homely environment and being a part of the usual daily life of people is an experience of it own. Meeting the smiling faces and friendly owners everyday was very heart warming. They help you every way just to make you feel good and carry lifelong memories. They go by concept of atithi devo bhava. Unlike hotels, they consider it treating the guests as their own people. Guys, you rock and your concept is a boon for travellers who are looking to absorb a place and not visit it. Good wishes and success to you guys. Hoping to travel soon with you again. Thumbs up!
