Peaks & Valleys Homestay – Rishop

This wooden cottage is situated in quiet village Rishop, around 30 kms from Kalipmpong. It is cuddled in the foothills of Tiffin Dara in the Neora Valley National Park and the entire mountain range starting from Kanchenjungha to Nathula can be seen from here. Because of its relatively lower altitude as compared to Darjeeling or Gangtok, the weather remains mild and pleasant during most parts of the year and is therefore an all season destination. The homestay offers a celestial getaway for stargazers, bird enthusiasts and nature lovers. 

There are 11 rooms across 2 floors; 7 rooms on the ground floor and 4 on the first floor. Wake up to lovely views of snowcapped Kanchenjunga and end your day under gorgeous star studded sky. The lights visible from the lit up town of Kalimpong below and the sparkling stars shining above make for a perfect romantic setting, infusing more beauty into the night. If you can fix your dates matching a full moon night you will be lucky to witness the moonlit snow-capped Kanchenjunga along with the bright stars. Altogether this awesome place gives you a mixed beauty sight of mountains, forest; chirping birds, clear day and the night sky.

If you are looking for a little adventure in the profuse silence of Rishyap, visit Neora Valley national park. You can choose to simply sit beside the streams and while away the hours or you can intrude into the hinterland. A permit is required to visit the park that can be obtained from the Forest Range Office at Lava and Samsing. A variety of flora and fauna makes the park famous. The red panda being the most popular fauna found in this forest visible very rarely only in the denser areas of the jungle.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra, which is about 116 kms. The nearest railway station is NJP 106 kms from the homestay. Taxis are available from the station and the airport.

Food

You can enjoy fresh home-cooked meals prepared by organic local vegetables. They serve poori-sabji, chowmein, butter toast, jam, sandwiches, eggs etc. in breakfast. In lunch/dinner they serve daal, vegetable, non-veg dish  along with roti and rice. The cook can serve Bengali, Chinese and North Indian dishes as per your preference. You have to place your order well in advance as it might take some time for your caretaker to arrange for the items.
