Khangsar is a tiny Village in Lahaul, Himachal Pradesh. It is characterized by high rugged mountains and large glaciers. Besides the beauty of the surrounding landscape with a bird’s eye view of the Jispa valley, Khangsar also has a 200 year old mud palace of the Thakurs of Khangsar, locally known as Kolong. The palace is made of stones with thick mud coating on the outside and wooden frameworks, which was once the common feature of all structures in the Lahaul and Spiti valleys.
Situated in the Lahaul valley beyond Atal Tunnel, the homestay is surrounded by snow capped mountains on every side with the view of mighty Himalayan Glaciers. There are 6 spacious guest rooms with wooden flooring and tandoor fireplace; there is 1 family room on the ground floor with private external bathroom, 1 family room and 1 classic double occupancy room with a shared bathroom on the first floor, and 2 classic double occupancy rooms both with private external bathrooms. The homestay stands out from many typical hotel style homestay you find in India, we stayed here for two days and we felt at home. The host Shushilbhai and his family are very helpful and they treated us like family. The room was clean and had proper insulation, wooden flooring, a big tandoor and was spacious enough for four people. They were decorated in himachali style. The home cooked food was quite delicious. Even though the waterlines were jammed with ice, as promised there was always running water available. The surroundings were clean and beautiful. From the terrace is quite mesmerizing, one can see surrounding mountains, river and even a glacier from the roof. If you are looking for homestay in lahaul do visit here.
