Located on the banks of the serene Pangong Lake, Merak is a small picturesque village. Most of the tourists visiting the lake often plan their stay in the first village on the lake stretch which is Spangmik or in the nearby Man village. As a result of which, both of these villages receive heavy influx of tourists during the peak season. Hence it hamper your plans of spending a peaceful time overlooking the quaint Pangong Lake under beautiful skies. Away from all the hustle and bustle, Merak then becomes an excellent option for your stay with modest village folks going about their daily routine and always welcoming guests to this quaint village. There is a small monastery on a small hilltop in the village so make sure to check that out.

Food

A beautiful room with little plants and glass windows all around for you to enjoy the view is what you have while munching on your meals. Rinchin cooks food for her guests and can cook almost everything one would like to have. But since you are visiting quite an exotic place with its own unique taste, one could request for dishes like Momos, Thukpa, Skyu, Thentuk etc. to experience the traditional living style.

Know your Host

Paljor along with his wife Rinchin looks after the homestay. Both of them thought of opening this homestay with an objective of providing an alternative to the commercial village of Spangmik while enjoying the pristine views of the Pangong Lake. Paljor spends most of his time travelling between Leh to Merak to arrange household things while Rinchin looks after her guests. There is a very lively atmosphere at their home with the kids always ready with their mischiefs. But you’d be surprised to know how much they know about the village, surroundings and the local culture. So make sure to sit with them and have a fun chit-chat session.
