Skampari Homestay – Leh

‘Land of Mystic Lamas’, ‘The Moonland’ and also ‘The Last Shangirala’ are the titles given to Ladakh, all with a bit of truth. Ladakh is bounded by two of the world’s highest mountain ranges – the Karakoram and the Great Himalaya, varies between 2743 mtr. to 7672 mtr. above the sea level. This miniature of Tibet is a land of medieval monasteries, fluttering prayer flags, cold deserts, peaks and passes. Centuries ago Leh was an important stop on the old carvan silk rout from China. Now it’s a military base and one of the most popular tourist destinations of North India, situated at 3524 mtr. Leh is dominated by massive 17th-century Leh Palace, modeled on the Dalai Lama’s former home (Tibet’s Potala Palace), overlooks the old town’s bazaar and maze like lanes. With the only airport in Ladakh region, Leh is the hub of all travel activities throughout Ladakh.

Skampari Homestay is just 15 minute walk from the main market. Since it is located on the road to Khardungla Pass, it suits well to those who are on a motorcycle or car tour to Ladakh. There are 10 well furnished guest rooms; all come with best of linens and 10″ thick luxurious mattresses. There are 3 superior rooms, all with attached English-style Toilet. In addition, there are 7 classic rooms – 5 with attached English toilet and 2 with external Indian toilets. Running hot water is provided in all bathrooms. There are three dining halls – 2 traditional and one modern dining to suit your choice. Alcohol and smoking is not allowed.
