Mawlynnong is a small village in lush green East Khasi hills of Meghalaya. The fruit orchards, colorful gardens, rushing streams, evergreen surroundings and the well-preserved traditions of the Khasis provide a perfect picture of this tiny village on the edge of Meghalaya’s southern ranges. The village was awarded the title “cleanest village in Asia” by Discover India in 2003 and the residents have kept it sparkling clean till date. The houses are neatly lined around the concrete roads that are dotted with beautiful bamboo garbage baskets. The main attraction here is the old Nohwet Living Root Bridge created by weaving the roots of the Ficus Elastica tree around a framework. You can also gaze at the seemingly endless plains of Bangladesh that lay just beyond, from high mounts in the village.
It is a recently built independent stand-alone house in the woods and there is a seasonal stream flowing just behind the green cover. It is just a walking distance from the main village. During the rainy season you can view Bangladesh clearly from the terrace of the house. There are 2 spacious family rooms on the first floor with two double beds in each. There is a double occupancy room on the ground floor that is ideal for couples. All rooms have attached bathrooms and have modern amenities.
