Assam-type Heritage Homestay  – Shillong

Shillong, the gateway to Meghalaya, is a beautiful city known for its serene and natural beauty.  Founded in the second half of the nineteenth century by the British, Shillong has always enjoyed a cosmopolitan status and it is reflected in its unique culture. People here celebrate every festival with zest and you can enjoy cuisines from across the country and the world. Shillong is also known for its emerging café culture. Attractions here include the pleasant Ward’s Lake, beautiful Elephant falls and the sprawling Golf Links. Shillong host the Cherry Blossom Festival in mid-November when the town turns into a stunning shade of pink. Live music and a plethora of activities like dance competitions, pageants, several stalls catered to represent their region through the cuisine, wine, arts and craft are some of the activities you can enjoy in the festival.

Located in one of the oldest residential areas of Shillong, this homestay is a carefully restored 6 decade old ‘Assam Type’ vintage cottage. Only a few of these homes are found today in Shillong. It is close to the major places of interest and you can walk to most of them and yet can enjoy the quiet and magnificent views of the Shillong Plateau from here. A 15 minute walk is all you need to escape to either the pretty Wards Lake, Hydari Park and other sightseeing areas in Shillong. Shopping is easy since both Laitumkhrah and Police Bazaar, both major market places, are also a 10 minute drive away.

Providing an old world charm in the city, this homestay has 3 rooms on the ground floor for the guests – 2 double occupancy rooms and 1 family room that has 2 interconnected rooms. All rooms are with attached baths with all modern fittings. There is a common dining area and a living room where you can socialize with other travelers. There is also a garden where you can spend relaxed time. Sunsets here are glorious, as are the twinkling lights of faraway homes perched high on the hilltops at night.
