Kaphal Farmstay, Kempty-Mussoorie

Mussoorie is a picturesque hill destination in Garhwal hills of Uttarakhand. As it is just around 290 kilometers from Delhi and 35 kilometers from Dehradun, it is a perfect for a weekend getaway. It is tucked away in a peaceful valley along Mussoorie-Kempty road away from all the touristy crowd. The farmstay has 2 independent cottages – Kaphal and Hinsar. It is surrounded by forests of Benog wildlife sanctuary with plenty of easy hiking trails around. 

There are two rooms in this cottage with attached bathrooms, private fully equipped kitchen and private outdoor sitting spaces. Large windows on all sides offer uninterrupted view of our beautiful valley. It opens into a fruit orchard with apricots, plums, walnuts, lemons, a herb and flower garden. There is private parking and a wide staircase leading to the cottage. There is a freshwater stream flowing below, terraced farms and a quaint village nearby. Perfect for nature lovers, artists and families looking to spend quality time together. The host family lives nearby and is happy to guide with local travel tips if needed. There is invertor backup for electricity and two pet dogs live near one of the cottages; however, they have their own area, which is closed off from guests.

How to Reach

Kempty is 12 km from Mussoorie. Jollygrant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport at a distance of 68 km and Dehradun railway station at 44 km from the homestay. Mussoorie is well connected on road to Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh and other major cities. Cabs are easily available from the airport and the railway station.

Food

They don’t serve food yet but will be making that option available soon. The kitchen is fully equipped for self cooking. Kempty market (2kms away) is good for buying vegetables and other groceries so you can chose to cook on your own. The host family also offers some seasonal local produce from their farms when it is available. There are restaurants at a walking distance who also deliver to the cottage.

Know Your Host

Sanyukta Sharma will host you with her lovely family. Her parents made this valley their workplace 35 years back, drawn by the freshwater stream and the forest sanctuary nearby. For the last decade, she lives here permanently. Sanyukta is a multi talented lady who is involved in family farms and orchards and harvests wild herbs, berries to make various food products. She has a good knowledge of local spots off the tourist route. She is also a filmmaker and draw stories from local folklore, traditions, history, geography and loves to introduce this culture to guests. She also also work with local wild clay to make toys and lamps. Her sister Desna works with local dried flowers for crafts and knows all the waterfalls big and small around. Her mother makes sure every guest feels warmly welcomed and her father does woodworking with their in-house carpenter. They have a telescope for stargazing on clear nights. Their staff and the larger local community associated with them are all great guides to ensure each guest finds their comfort and excitement.
