Just 8 hrs drive from the capital city Delhi takes you to this tiny village Nathuakhan. It is a quiet place located at an altitude of 6365 ft. in the heart of the Kumaon Mountains of central Himalayas. Hardly 40 km way from touristic crowd of Nainital, Nathuakhan takes your heart away with its terraced fields, tiny mud houses perched on the slopes of rolling hills and colorful evening skies. It comes in the fruit belt of Uttarakhand. The place can be visited in any time of the year. But if you want to enjoy fresh fruits right from the garden, May-June is the best time.
This village home is actually a 5 bedroom hillside bungalow, a perfect spot to rejuvenate a spirit that has been bruised and battered by the humdrum of a city life. Tucked away on a hill, quaint rooms, perfectly accessorized with the most beautiful home accents, ever smiling and helpful staff, articulate and warm host, this is the perfect home stay to spend few days with your family and friends.

As the host herself is an excellent cook, the best part of your stay here will be food. Elaborate home cooked vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food is served all made from the organic vegetables grown in their kitchen garden or neighboring farms.
Breakfast is a hearty affair, complete with eggs, porridge, flakes, bread, jams and spreads and poha or idlis, upma or parathas. Lunch is usually an Indian vegetarian spread. They also serve regional food- Kumaoni, Gujrati, Bengali etc. Non-vegetarian is served for dinner for those who want it.

If you're looking for some quiet time, coupled with the comforts of staying in a safe and warm environment, then this is the place for you. Tastefully done interiors, and exteriors, and oozing warmth and coziness will definitely make you extend your stay here. Our visit to Nathuakhan was almost marred by incessant downpour, if not for this lovely place that we had to ourselves. Even though we missed meeting Devika aunty, but her ever smiling and very helpful staff took care of us really well and I'm sure she must be very proud of them (she should be). From serving lip smacking, piping hot home cooked food made out of fresh veggies to the endless cups of tea and coffee made exactly to our liking every single time, everything was just perfect and made with so much love and affection. The place is exactly how you see in the pictures, has ample seating space outside with fantastic views, rooms are spacious and overlook the valley. I especially loved the collection of books. Even though we missed meeting Devika aunty in person, she was always asking about our well being over the phone. We were only booked for a day's stay but thanks to the weather we were forced to extend our stay and I've never been this delighted to get stuck somewhere. A second visit to this peaceful abode is definitely on the cards, just to meet Devika aunty..and to feel that love and warmth again. Best wishes to aunty and her team, Swati & Shubhonita (stayed: Sept 2017)
