Trekkers Abode Homestay

Nestled amidst the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges, Gainchwan Gaon is a small village in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. Part of the Govind Ballabh Pant Wildlife Sanctuary, Gainchwan Gaon is not just a scenic hamlet but also a trekker’s delight. The area has lush green meadows and lofty pine forest, snow clad peaks and mountains, gushing rivers and wide valleys. The village offers an unexplored route for one of the top winter treks in Uttarakhand – Kedarkantha. The village receives heavy snowfall in winters and is a perfect place to enjoy snow activities and nearby treks.

Located beautifully in the center of the village with apple orchards adding to its beauty, the homestay is well-constructed with all modern amenities. There are four private rooms with a king-size double bed, floor carpets and attached washrooms. Each room can accommodate a total of 2 people and extra mattresses can be provided for kids. There is a big hall in the premises with a sofa, a TV and floor mattress which can accommodate a group of guests. The homestay is at roadhead and free Private Parking is available. There is a caretaker who will be available 24*7 to your service and ensure all your requirements are fulfilled. Bonfire, heaters and extra blankets are supplied as per guests needs. The homestay offers you a chance to indulge in the local culture and have an insight in the lives of the Himalayan People.

How to Reach

Gainchwan Gaon is at a distance of 178 km from Dehradun and well connected by motorable roads. Jolly Grant Airport (203 km) is the nearest airport with daily connectivity of flights from all major cities. Dehradun Railway Station (188 km) and Haridwar Railway Station (228 km) are the nearest railway stations from the village. Uttarakhand roadways bus, jeeps and private cabs are available for connectivity with the village. You can take a bus till Purola from Dehradun and further book a cab or shared jeep to reach the village. The route till Mori passes through beautiful lush pine forests and later the road goes alongside with the Tons river to enter the valley making it the journey of a lifetime.

Freshly cooked meals are served as per guest choice. There is a caretaker who cooks delicacies with fresh vegetables from the farm and serves local cuisine to the guests. Some local dishes such as gehet ki dal, lingda, kandali saag, mandua ki roti and jhangori ki kheer are worth giving a try while you stay. Non vegetarian food can also be prepared on order. Do inform the hosts well in advance about your food preferences.

Know Your Host

The homestay belongs to Santosh Rangar who is a native of Gainchwan Gaon, Uttarkashi and is a scholar with a dual postgraduate degree from  HNBGU. He is currently pursuing PhD and has 15+ years of experience in the field of public administration and managing apple orchards. With the thought of encouraging youngsters to uplift their lifestyle while staying local, he has started the homestay. He also arranges treks for guests with a team of local youth. He stays in Dehradun and his family lives on the same property of the homestay. His wife manages the homestay along with a caretaker. He promises all guests to get a family atmosphere and a homely experience.
